Jessica Sierra is like a US-born, talentless version of Amy Winehouse. Or a poverty-stricken version of Britney Spears. The former American Idol finalist has had a bad couple of months, and it's only getting worse. Today, it was announced that a major pornography company has obtained a copy of a “sex tape†involving Sierra shot in a seedy hotel room (TMZ has a racy screen cap from the tape, if you're into that sort of thing...I'll save you some time: she's naked and smoking a cigarette in the bath tub). This comes just a week after Sierra was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest. Reportedly, Sierra also vomited at the police station and called the arresting officers “crackers.†Jessica Sierra: making American Idol proud!
The moniker “sex tape†gets thrown around a lot these days. Fortunately (unfortunately?), the reported Sierra tape doesn't seem to involve any sex, but just a naked Sierra in a seedy hotel room. The porn company is supposedly sitting on the tape and will release it to coincide with early January's American Idol premiere. Porn sites are clever like that.
Fame is weird sometimes. This story wouldn't have made any waves had Sierra never appeared on American Idol. However, Sierra would have been long forgotten and completely anonymous to 99.9% of the population had she not been arrested or done anything ridiculously stupid since being on Idol. She shouldn't be famous either way, but we live in a world with things like TMZ, where minor fame can rapidly lead to major infamy to the indifference of everyone.
Sierra faces up to eleven years in prison for her various troubles with the law. It's unfortunate that this tape has been heaped onto her already long list of personal troubles. When it rains, it pours, I suppose.
