The three-time defending champion Jayhawks (25-7) made up the deficit quickly and led by five before Dunn fueled a decisive 12-0 run for the Bears (19-13).
Kansas became only the second top-seeded team to lose its opening game at the Big Twelve tournament. Baylor was also responsible for the other upset, beating Iowa State in 2001.
Sherron Collins scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half to lead the Jayhawks.
Oklahoma State 71, Oklahoma 70 - Byron Eaton had 16 points and seven assists for the Cowboys (22-10) in an upset of the sixth-ranked Sooners (27-4) to all but clinch an NCAA tournament berth.
In other quarterfinal games, Texas (Dexter Pittman 19 points, 20 rebounds) beat Kansas State, 61-58, while No. 14 Missouri eased past Texas Tech, 81-60.
Atlantic Coast Conference
Georgia Tech 86, Clemson 81 - Lewis Clinch set a career high with 32 points and the last-place Yellow Jackets (12-18) pulled off the first big upset of the ACC tourney, stunning the No. 17 Tigers (23-8) in Atlanta. Trevor Booker paced Clemson with 17 points.
Virginia Tech 65, Miami 47 - The Hokies (18-13) broke open a close game with a 14-0 run in the second half and beat the Hurricanes (18-12) to keep their NCAA tournament hopes alive. Adrian Thomas led Miami with nine points.
Maryland defeated N.C. State, 74-69, as Eric Hayes scored a career-high 21 points, and Boston College beat Virginia, 76-63.
Big Ten
Penn St. 66, Indiana 51 - Jamelle Cornley had 22 points and six rebounds, leading the sixth-seeded Nittany Lions (22-10) State past the Hoosiers (6-25) in the first round of the conference tourney in Indianapolis.
Penn State advanced to today's semifinals against third-seeded Purdue. Another win could likely lock up an NCAA bid for the Lions.
In other tourney games, Minnesota (Lawrence Westbrook 14 points) topped Northwestern, 66-53, and Michigan (DeShawn Sims 27 points) rolled over Iowa, 73-45.
Pac-10
Washington 85, Stanford 73 - Jon Brockman scored 20 points, Isaiah Thomas sparked a decisive second-half spurt with nine points and the No. 13 Huskies (25-7) defeated the Cardinal (18-13) in a tournament quarterfinal in Los Angeles.
Tonight, Washington will play 23d-ranked Arizona State (23-8), which defeated Arizona, 68-56, in another quarterfinal. Also, USC beat California, 79-75.
Southeastern Conference
Kentucky 71, Mississippi 58 - Jodie Meeks scored 25 points and Patrick Patterson had 15 points and 14 rebounds to help the Wildcats (20-12) top the Rebels (16-15) in Tampa, Fla., to advance to the conference quarterfinals. Kentucky will face No. 20 LSU.
Mississippi State beat Georgia, 79-60, and Alabama topped Vanderbilt, 82-75, in other first-round games.
Conference USA
Tulsa 73, Rice 51 - In Memphis, Ray Reese scored 22 points and the Golden Hurricane (23-9) got off to a quick start, rolling over the Owls (10-22) in the tournament quarterfinals.
In other games, UAB (Paul Delaney III 21 points) needed overtime to defeat Southern Mississippi, 74-73, fourth-ranked Memphis took out Tulane, 51-41, and Houston needed overtime to defeat UTEP, 89-85.
Mid-American
Ball State 64, Cent. Michigan 61 - Laron Frazier's jumper with 1:53 left in overtime put the Cardinals (14-16) ahead for good in a conference quarterfinal win over the Chippewas (12-19) in Cleveland.
Frazier finished with 22 points for Ball State, which will face Buffalo, a 65-62 winner over Kent State, in another quarterfinal. Also, Bowling Green defeated Ohio, 74-61, and Akron beat Miami of Ohio, 73-63.
Mountain West Conference
BYU 80, Air Force 69 - Jimmer Fredette scored 21 points, Jonathan Tavernari had 19 points and 11 rebounds, and the No. 25 Cougars (22-9) overcame a halftime deficit in the victory over the Falcons (10-21) in a tournament quarterfinal in Las Vegas.
In another quarterfinal, San Diego State (22-8) defeated UNLV, 71-57, behind Lorrenzo Wade's had 20 points and 10 rebounds, to keep alive its NCAA tournament hopes.
Also, Utah defeated TCU, 61-58.
Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
Norfolk State 63, Bethune-Cookman 58 - Corey Lyons scored 28 points and the Spartans (12-17) defeated the Wildcats (17-16) in a conference quarterfinal in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Norfolk State will play second-seeded South Carolina State in today's semifinals.
Coppin State defeated North Carolina A&T, 66-63, in another quarterfinal.
Southland
Nicholls State 80, Texas State 75 - Ryan Bathie scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half and the Colonels (20-10) rallied to beat the Bobcats (14-16) in a first-round game in Katy, Texas.
In other tourney games, Texas-San Antonio upset Sam Houston State, 83-74, as Devin Gibson scored 25 points and Omar Johnson added 20, and Stephen F. Austin beat Southeast Louisiana, 67-56.
