Gretchen Carlson Carlson
Fox News television personality Gretchen Carlson of the Fox and Friends morning show came home this week to cover the Republican National Convention and to take time to further value her Anoka hometown roots.
“I’ve been looking forward to this opportunity for a long time,†says Carlson, proud to point to her Swedish heritage. Smiling and laughing comes natural for the blonde-haired, blue-eyed Carlson. She does point out that she can be serious and intense in her role as a news show anchor, too.
Gretchen Carlson grew up in Anoka, the daughter of Lee and Karen Carlson. Her father owned Main Motors for many years. The Carlsons now reside in North Oaks where Gretchen says she visits often and prior to working at the RNC this week, she spent some time going on a run in the quiet of the north metro area. “For 30 minutes this was so refreshing and brought me back to my roots,†she related.
With an American flag adorning the St. Paul Xcel Energy Center in the background, Gretchen Carlson introduces another guest on her Fox with Friends TV show. She recently signed an extended contract with the nation’s largest cable news network.
Carlson says she is blessed to have “a wonderful family†around her. She says she gets home often. Her grandfather, The Rev. William Hyllengren was a pastor of Zion Lutheran Church for many years. With her grandparents and parents providing a strong base in the community, the backbone of Minnesota values has been important to her. She praises the public school system providing a well-rounded background for her. She says she still stays in touch with many of her teachers.
