New Delhi: At least one person has been killed and more than 18 injured as a bomb exploded in a crowded market in south Delhi.
The explosion, that comes a fortnight after serial blasts rocked the national Capital, took place in the Mehrauli market area on Saturday afternoon, a senior police official says.
According to police sources and eyewitness reports, two youth on a motorbike drove past the crowded market and dropped a black bag.
A 14-year-old boy reportedly picked up the bag with an intention of returning it to the bikers and that's when it exploded, killing the boy instantly.
Police have also confirmed the bomb was triggered from a device placed in a tiffin box inside the bag. They also say the bikers were aged between 20 and 25 years.
According to reports, the blast took place in an electronic shop -- called Rekha and Tripti -- in the Sarai area of Mehrauli.
Hospitals on the standby
At least 14 of the 50 injured have been rushed to trauma centre of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. One child -- reportedly the boy who picked up the bob -- was reportedly declared dead on arrival.
AIIMS spokesperson Y K Gupta tells CNN-IBN the team of doctors is ready for handling the crisis. Dr Sanjeev of AIIMS has confirmed the one casualty and says 11 men and four women are among the 14 injured.
Fire tenders and ambulances were rushed to the spot and police have cordoned off 30-m area around the blast site.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast.
Mehrauli is a commercial hub that houses a number of hardware shops.
