That's the philosophy behind the Read Across America celebration that will send more than 90 volunteers into 34 Boys & Girls Clubs across the Milwaukee area Monday afternoon for two hours of reading, games and other activities. It's the most extensive local participation in the national literacy promotion started in 1997.
Pat Marcus organized the activities as an extension of the Boys & Girls Club initiative Spheres of Proud Achievement in Reading for Kids. In its third year, SPARK provides one-on-one tutoring for more than 400 children who have difficulty reading.
The serious work to help those children takes place in 30-minute tutoring sessions three times a week.
The Read Across America activities on Monday afternoon will put much more emphasis on fun, in keeping with the fanciful nature of the Dr. Seuss books.
As Marcus quoted from the national promotion: "You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child."
And that's the 105th Birthday of Dr Seuss.
